Challenge

Located in the heart of Wisconsin, Waupaca County is a great destination for those looking for active adventures, incredible scenery, and endless activities. Being in the upper Midwest, Waupaca is the perfect spot to enjoy all four seasons. Locals and tourists enjoy all types of sports throughout the year from biking and hiking to skiing and paddling. Waupaca County also hosts many community events year-round in an attempt to bring people together. Waupaca is certainly a must-visit Wisconsin city, but in the past, they’ve struggled to position themselves as such.

In the past few months, the Waupaca County chamber and other organizations came together to create a cohesive marketing plan that would showcase all that the state and county have to offer. Their goal was to inform and attract more tourists to the area and create more awareness about all the things to do in Waupaca.

One prominent hurdle for the Waupaca County Economic Development Corporation was that they had no prior web presence, hindering their ability to reach a wider audience. They needed a way to showcase their community events. Additionally, the existing branding materials were loosely structured, incomplete, and outdated. WCEDC was facing some challenges that needed to be addressed in order to continue to improve the Waupaca area.

Once WCEDC came to Webfitters with these challenges, we knew our expertise could be of benefit to them.

Solution

After sitting down with WCEDC and discussing their needs, we crafted an execution plan that focused on updating all branding materials, creating awareness for the Waupaca area, as well as developing a way to easily inform locals and tourists about upcoming events.

First off, we started by crafting a new logo, color scheme, and brand with a contemporary look and feel. Using earth tones, as well as a few pops of color, the new branding has an outdoorsy, natural vibe that seamlessly aligns with the diverse range of year-round activities Waupaca has to offer.

We then began creating a branded website that was both user-friendly and informative. Our goal was to create an attractive site that made users excited about all Waupaca has to offer. Local photography is showcased throughout the site to highlight all of the natural beauty within Waupaca.

An interactive map is featured on the homepage, pinning all of the local cities/communities involved in the VisitWaupacaCounty campaign. Clicking on the pins takes the user to a community landing page featuring important links and resources. The map is a great visual for users to see the location of each community.

We also created a custom map feed system that displays various trail maps throughout the site. The system allows for a GeoJSON map file or URL to be placed into the site and converted to an interactive trail map. The map feed contains other customizable controls for optimal user experience.

One other great feature on the newly launched WCEDC website is the “Events” page. This page acts as a central point that links to all Waupaca County Chamber event pages, so users can find everything in one space. It provides a dedicated space for community members to stay informed and up-to-date on the latest happenings in Waupaca.

Lastly, Webfitters created an Instagram campaign and corresponding feed where users can share their Waupaca County experiences by posting to Instagram with the #WaupacaCounty hashtag to get their photography featured on the website. This is a fun way to get first-hand content from Waupaca County visitors and locals.

Waupaca County’s new website and social campaign are now live and operating seamlessly! We are thrilled to have played a role in this project and eagerly anticipate witnessing the positive impact it will have on the Waupaca community as they persistently position themselves as a must-visit destination in Wisconsin.
